The vision of Mr. C
Since the beginning, our companies have been focused on expanding access to opportunity and giving back to the community. It all began in 1989, when Marcello Camillo developed his first community in Houston, TX.
Led by a grand vision — and with an ability to see around curves — Mr. C (as he was fondly known) grew from one business of 13 employees to more than 450 employees across multiple, thriving businesses.
During the financial crisis of 2008, Marcello saw a need for single-family rental homes and pioneered the build-to-rent industry. Today, his work continues through Legend Homes and the Camillo family of companies.
Marcello passed in 2021, leaving behind a legacy that lives on in every door we open for a new Texas family.

Legend Homes is founded
Marcello Camillo founds Legend Homes with a vision to make quality homeownership attainable for Texas families.
- 2000
1,000th home delivered
Legend Homes hands over the keys to its 1,000th home — a milestone in our commitment to opening doors across Houston.
- 2005
San Antonio expansion
Legend Homes enters the San Antonio market under the Bella Vista Homes brand, bringing our approach to a new region.
- 2019
15,000th home and new markets
Legend Homes built its 15,000th home and expanded into the Bryan-College Station and Dallas-Fort Worth markets.
- 2022
20,000th home completed
Legend Homes built its 20,000th home — a powerful reminder of how many Texas families have trusted us with their first step.
- 2023
Strategic alignment and rebrand
Camillo Companies launched a strategic alignment of Academy Development, Legend Homes, and SimplyHome, and Bella Vista Homes rebranded as Legend Homes in the San Antonio market.
- 2026
35 years strong
